Jr Natl Rowing: Odisha, Telangana joint champs

Host Odisha and Telangana emerged joint team champions with nine points each in the 38th Junior National Rowing Championship, which was organised by Odisha Association for Rowing and Sculling (OARS), under the aegis of Rowing Federation of India (RFI) on Birupa Regetta Course at SAI Water Sports Complex, Jagatpur (Cuttack) from November 15 to 18, 2017.

Odisha won three out of eight gold medals on offer and all three were claimed by their women. Telangana pocketed two gold, one silver and one bronze, while Madhya Pradesh finished third with eight points. Odisha won the three yellow metals in junior women’s single scull, coxless pair and coxless four events.

The four-day championship was inaugurated by Odisha Governor Dr SC Jamir in the presence of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. State Police DG Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophies.

Former RFI president K P Singh Deo, current president Rajalaxmi Singh Deo, OARS president Binod Dash and secretary Amar Jyoti Sigh Deo were present on the occasion. Odisha Odisha hosted the championship for the fifth time, the earlier four time being 2002, 2007, 2008 and 2012.
